Birth Kits for Ethiopia
According to the United Nations, as of 2010 for every 1000 babies born in Ethiopia, 72 die. On a list of 188 countries (with number 1 being the lowest infant mortality and number 188 being the highest), Ethiopia is number 165.
The high infant mortality is due to, unsanitary birth practices, lack of trained midwives/birth attendants, poor roads in rural areas (which prevent women from making the journey to a clinic when needed), and lack of education on the childbirth process (for example, how to recognize complications requiring a Doctor or Trained Midwife; as well as simple life saving techniques, like how to properly sterilize razors).
It is our hope that we will lower the infant mortality by first addressing the issue of a lack of sanitary supplies. We are collecting both donations and supplies for birth kits to be distributed throughout rural Ethiopia. For only $5.00 you can sponsor a birth kit for a woman in need. We also welcome the donation of physical supplies: individually wrapped razors, thin cotton blankets or fabric (for the delivery), cotton string, umbilical cord clamps, small bars of antibacterial soap. Supplies can be sent to The Home Birth Project, 2708 Rincon Court, Santa Fe, NM 87505 Attn: Tintawi KaIgziabiher

May all that you give come forward to you 100 fold!
Support the Home Birth Project's Mission to educate women and families on the everyday miracle of natural childbirth. Currently we are available to host workshops in the New Mexico area. With your assistance we can expand our services to international communities. Your donation helps to keep our workshop fees low and/or free to those who need them most. We appreciate your contributions. Be well!
